Lily was born with a cleft palate that runs through her esophagus. Her condition was so severe that she could suffer from aspiration at any time. Even the vets didn’t think it was worth the risk to perform surgery and suggested it would be better to put her down.
While most people agreed with what the vets said, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC thought otherwise. Everyone at the rescue group agreed Lily was a resilient puppy and that she would fight for her life. They knew all she needed was some help and a little encouragement and she will definitely pull through.
Shortly after her rescue, Lily continued to her foster home. She was about 6 weeks old at that time and weighed no more than 3.5 pounds. She was so tiny and delicate, but her foster mom Nora Carp knew exactly how to care for her.
After several IV fluids, doses of antibiotics, rounds of appetite stimulants, and tons of TLC, Lily was able to eat on her own. It may seem insignificant, but it was a huge achievement for this little girl. From there, she continued to make progress.
Lily regularly met with her specialty vet and underwent thorough examinations all the time. Her X-rays showed no sign of aspiration or pneumonia in her lungs. Her breathing was fine and her heartbeat sounded great.
Ten days since her rescue, this little fighter gained half a pound. She transformed into the silliest and most adorable puppy anyone could ever meet. She continuously improved, and by the third week, she was at 5.4 pounds already.
Nora y plays a significant part in Lily’s journey. There’s no doubt she’s doing the right thing. She’s one of the reasons why this puppy is still alive.
Lily is now a little bigger weighing nearly 10 pounds. She’s healthy and bouncy, and very vocal, too. Since she discovered her voice, she never stops talking. She always lets her
foster mom know she wants or needs something.
