It may not be that obvious to some people, but there is a huge difference between stray dogs and pups who have a home in terms of their behavior. Puppers who have been living in the streets are skittish, and they usually run away if a human approached them.
But this skittish behavior and lack of trust can still be changed. All it really takes is a lot of patience, and of course, doggy treats! These are what this kind woman named Ryan Graney armed herself with when she decided to help out a stray pooch from their neighborhood.
This poor pupper had been living on a vacant lot for seven years. However, construction was about to start on the property, and Graney knew that she had to rescue the doggo. She started with earning her trust, so every day after work, Graney would visit the pup on that vacant lot and feed her. After a couple of months, the doggo allowed Graney to pet her, which means the pup was starting to trust the kind woman.
Not long after that, Graney saw the pooch outside of her house. So she decided to feed her in the front yard so that they could establish a new meeting place, and it worked! The doggo would act like a guard dog in the yard, and she would even greet Graney every time she came back home from work. At this point, she named the dog Molly.
The two kept spending time in the front yard, but Graney was scared to put a leash on Molly as she could run away and never come back. So she decided to lure the pupper with a big tasty meal in the backyard, and when the pooch entered, Graney shut the gate close. But instead of panicking, Molly felt right at home.
Not long after, Graney also introduced Molly inside of her house. But on that occasion, the dog mom had to use a Benadryl inside a hotdog to put the doggo to sleep so she could trap her indoors. Nevertheless, it was worth it because Molly started to adjust to life as a house pet, and she even befriended Graney’s other dogs!
