We often hear stories about our soldiers deployed overseas, making friends with local dogs. Although our soldiers have been trained to fight, they’re still human, and they have the capacity to care for another living creature. This is why our soldiers bring home dogs that they befriend when they go on their tour of duty.
When army veteran Danny Ridone was deployed to Syria, he didn’t expect to meet a dog much more to fall in love with one. He had a job to do, which is to help our allies in Syria to fight against terrorism. Despite the intense fighting, Danny and his fellow soldiers found peace when they spent time with the stray dogs that were wandering in the base.
The soldiers would often give food to the dogs and befriend them. Eventually, the dogs would get comfortable, and they often become pets for the soldiers. Whenever Danny and comrades had free time, they would spend it with the dogs. The dogs would take them out of the horrors of war and take them somewhere peaceful.
Syri stayed at the facility for four months, and Danny would often email the SPCA to ask how Syri was and ask for pictures. When Syri was finally able to fly to Iraq, Danny was so excited that he’s finally going to get reunited with his dog. Syri was flown to the US, and Danny was there waiting at the airport to pick her up.
Syri was a little tired, but she definitely remembers Danny. Syri adjusted to her new life, and she and Danny became inseparable. Syri’s finally enjoying her new life in the US, and Danny’s thankful that he’s finally with Syri, who helped him go through a tough time while he was deployed in a warzone in Syria. Here’s a video showing Syri’s rescue and reunion with Danny.
