Officer Michael Pascale was driving around a public park when he noticed a small black Pit Bull chained into a fence out of the corner of his eye. Joey, the Pittie, was shivering from cold and was surrounded not only by used needles but also with broken beer bottles.
Michael recalled his first thought was to rescue Joey and get him out to safety. Michael shared that he drove straight to the Brooklyn Animal Care Center right after taking Joy’s chains off of him.
Michael shared that Joey kept on leaning onto him while he was busy drying him off. Michael said that he immediately bonded with Joey, and he was relieved that he found Joey on time.
Michael sent his wife, Francesca, a picture of Joey and told her that he could not believe that someone would do something so mean to the pup. Michael shared that Francesca’s first response to his message was to bring the dog home.
Michael recalled telling his wife not to play with him because he really would bring the dog home, and his wife reiterated to bring Joey home. However, Michael needed to wait for 72 hours before he can take Joey with him, so he reassured the pooch that he will come back for him before leaving the facility.
Michael shared that after 72 hours, he was able to take Joey out for a walk, and Joey even fell asleep with his hand underneath the pup’s chin. Michael admitted that seeing Joey relax and cling onto him really tugged at his heartstrings.
Michael said that he was finally able to bring Joey home with him after another day. Michael reassured that Joey that he will keep him safe and that what Joey went through will never happen to him again.
