We usually get a dog in our family for our kids to learn about responsibility and compassion for animals. For families with a child, dogs often become their playmates and companion as they grow up. Still, oftentimes, these dogs do more for us because without us teaching them, they automatically become our protector.
Having a dog gives us an extra sense of security due to their super senses. They are the first ones who find out whenever there is something wrong going on or whenever an intruder is nearby. Especially for humans who have conditions or disabilities, having a dog to rely upon is the best help we can get for ourselves.
Deaf 13-year-old Mick Bernard was saved by his 2-year-old Pit Bull, Ace, from a house fire. While sleeping without his cochlear implants, Mick was woken up by his dog Ace. Because Mick couldn’t hear anything, Ace had to go up to his face to make sure he woke Mick up. The boy smelled smoke, and as he opened his eyes, he found smoke inside his room.
The duo had run out of the house, which was beginning to be consumed by the fire just in time. But before running out, Ace even got one of Mick’s two cochlear implants before heading out.
The Bernard’s home in Perry Pines Court Indianapolis was quickly eaten up by the huge fire. And even though the home was ravaged, the family was still able to smile during their interview. The family couldn’t have made it out alive on time without their heroic Ace.
According to the family, Ace is just like one of the family, but now, they’re even more grateful for his presence. Ace is not just adored by the whole Bernard family, but also the whole community who sees this pup as a hero.
