For about two years, an unkempt dog had been staying in an abandoned property in a village in South Korea. Sometimes she could be seen sitting in front of the house as if she was waiting for someone.
People in the village had been feeding her, including the woman who lived near the abandoned house. She named the dog Boksil. Whenever the woman called out to her, she would come out. However, she was very wary of everybody and stayed out of reach.
The woman would leave food and water by the gate. Then Boksil would come to eat as soon as she had made sure that no one was around. When she had her fill, she would wait in front of the gate. She watched every car that passed by as if expecting someone to come and get her.
According to the woman, a senior man used to live there with Boksil. He used to call her Buddha, and he loved her so much. Unfortunately, he contracted a fatal disease, and he passed away. Boksil was left alone to fend for herself because no one came for her.
It fell on the good-hearted villagers to give basic provisions to Boksil. However, she had not had a medical check-up, and her hair had grown too long that she had become unrecognizable. They knew something really had to be done, so they asked for the help of a group of animal lovers called the Kritter Klub.
The group assembled a rescue team, and they headed to the abandoned house. Catching Boksil was tricky because she was so distrustful of humans. She tried to escape to the mountain, but they eventually caught her and brought her to the vet.
Her face could be seen at last after cleaning up her unkempt hair. The vet found out that Boksil had heartworm, but he was confident that she would recover.
The lady who used to feed her volunteered to adopt her. She knew that she could win her over if she showed her love every day. Boksil did not have to wait for her lost family because she had a new family who loved her just as much.
