If you happen to pass by this particular kennel at the Bullock County Humane Society, there’s somebody really special wanting to say “Hi!” And it wouldn’t be hard not to take a moment of your time to see who’s inside.
This is Speck, a bright, loving dog who’s only after someone’s attention.
Whenever he sees someone passing by, he would push his face between the bars on his cage and reach out his little paw. His desire for human love was confirmed by the shelter’s director, Desiray Miracle-Wilder. He would look very sad whenever someone walks off after cleaning his cage or after somebody pets him and leaves.
For more than eighteen months now, he has stayed unnoticed in his kennel at the Alabama shelter, waiting for someone to adopt him. One can infer that he’s had a hard life prior due to the scars on his face, but he’s a very trusting dog. You can make him mingle with cats, another dog or animal but he wouldn’t make a fuss out of it; he just wants to get some love.
Wilder was inspired to get the dog’s sweet gesture on video while she was cleaning the kennels. She was hoping that it would spark some attention on Speck by posting this on her Facebook account. And it did—the video clip went around quickly and generated more than 96,000 views over the course of a few days.
Notably, the clip was noticed by Allie’s Hope For Paws Dog Rescue, who was instrumental in connecting Speck with an adopter. Wilder announced this excitedly on Facebook.
His new parents are Mike and Danielle, who owns a 26-acre farm where he can freely run around together with his two dog brothers. More importantly, his story not only landed him a bright new future, but he was instrumental in the adoption and rescue of other shelter dogs, plus some incredible food donations for the facility!
Run free, Speck! We’re very happy for you!
