It was usual for the Atlanta Humane Society to see rescued dogs from the streets that had skin diseases. But seeing Pippa, an eight-week-old puppy that was barely two pounds, was unusual.
Alien dog
At first glance, Pippa looked like an alien. She had minimal fur and was so scared and sick that she couldn’t stop shaking.
Pippa was too tiny and sick to stay at the shelter. She needed a lot of care, along with attention because of her condition.
Amanda, one volunteer at the shelter, had a soft spot for fostering mange dogs. So when she got the picture of Pippa, she knew she wanted to help the pup. Amanda dropped everything she was doing that day and drove to the shelter to pick the Pippa up.
Recovery
Pippa had no idea what to do when she got to Amanda’s house. Whenever her foster mom would put her down, she would just shiver in one spot.
Amanda would give Pippa a medicated bath for her skin. After the first bath, it became noticeable he the dog’s scabs from her old wounds came off.
After a few weeks, Pippa’s hair grew back, and her personality started to blossom. She would run around and play with Amanda’s eighty-pound Pitbull. Amanda even bought Pippa new toys because all the other toys she had were bigger than the puppy. That’s when Amanda felt that Pippa was ready to be adopted
Forever home
Pippa didn’t have to wait long for the perfect forever home. A girl named Mary saw a photo of the pup and showed her mother, Terrie, who wanted to adopt a dog.
The next day, Terri and her daughter went to the shelter to talk about adoption. Terri carried the dog, and Pippa licked her new mom’s face. Terri knew in her heart that she was going to love Pippa and give her a good life.
Pippa loved her new mom. The pair went everywhere together. The bond they formed was strong, and it was evident that the pup was living a life she truly deserved.
